ANMF encourage all health providers to include paid domestic violence leave in their EA’s on International Women’s Day.
This International Women’s Day (IWD) the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation Tasmanian Branch (ANMF) continue their commitment towards supporting women’s rights by announcing 20 days paid domestic violence leave in all of their Staff Enterprise Agreements.
“In Australia, a woman dies every week because of family and domestic violence. This is tragic and unacceptable” said Branch Secretary Emily Shepherd.
“Victims of domestic violence need the support from their employer when being subjected to family and domestic violence. Paid domestic violence leave is essential for victims to have a chance at breaking the pattern of violence and control. We want to be leaders in driving this change. In 2018, we will be seeking paid domestic violence leave in all of our industry Enterprise Agreements.”
Employers who provide access to this type of leave are enabling women to utilise the support services available to them to take back control and have the confidence to leave. These services may include doctors’ appointments, lawyers, schools, and real estate agents, to name a few. All of these services run during work hours and all are necessary when changing situations. Women in domestic violence situations should have the ability to take back control and access to the services required to do so without the additional fear of losing their job.
“The ANMF support the call from Unions and concerned community members Australia wide, for the Federal Government to immediately act. We ask them to introduce legislation which will see the inclusion of 10 days minimum paid family and domestic violence leave in the national employment standard.”
Branch Sectary, Emily Shepherd invites media to attend the ANMF office at 12.40pm on Thursday 8th March, for a doorstop and photo opportunity with our Workplace Reps and ANMF staff at the Hobart ANMF office.
