How we’re helping our members at this time
These are unprecedented, challenging times for our community, and most especially for your members. We recognise that the incredible work they are doing is critically important to support our community through this coronavirus outbreak.
We’ve stood with our sector through many challenges over the past 32 years and we’re doing everything we can to support you now, and into the future.
We know HESTA members may be feeling concerned about the coronavirus impact, and how share market volatility might affect their super. Our investment team is highly experienced at managing our members’ investments through major events like these. And our advice team is also helping members understand what’s happening and what they might need to think about.
Like many businesses, our Trustee Office is now working remotely, and we have re-deployed HESTA employees to increase our advice service to members.
Our advice teams can provide advice to your members remotely – through online Zoom video meetings and phone appointments.
We’re also working through ways to continue providing education and other services virtually.
As you may be aware, The Federal Government has announced changes to super access in response to the coronavirus. Under the new rules, people financially impacted by the coronavirus could access up to $10,000 of their super in 2019-20 and a further $10,000 in 2020-21.

In coordination with other leaders in our industry, we’re also working with the Government and regulators on how these changes will be administered to ensure those eligible have their claims processed as fast as possible.
The announcement of these changes and the ongoing volatility on share markets has resulted in our contact centre experiencing high call volumes. We are doing our utmost to reduce wait times and get to every member who needs assistance.
