  • 3. “My interstate graduate year”

“My Graduate Nursing year began in February 2021 at the Royal Children’s Hospital in the Emergency Department. I studied my Bachelor of Nursing Degree at Swinburne University of Technology where I was mentored by my experienced university lecturers.

During my studies I worked as an orderly in a private hospital, as a RUSON (Registered Undergraduate Student of Nursing) at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.

I also worked as a qualified ballet teacher to young children. These experiences have been invaluable in helping me develop my nursing skills thus far.”

  • 6. Graduate Nurse Transition Program Launceston 2022

My name is Melanie, but I go by Mel! I was born and raised in Launceston and completed my schooling and Bachelor of Nursing at UTAS in 2012. I commenced working with Calvary in CSSD (Theatre Sterilising Department) while I was studying my nursing degree and was lucky enough to get a graduate position and have stayed working with them ever since.

Before commencing my role as Graduate Coordinator for Calvary Launceston, I worked on the Findlay ward as a level 2 nurse and completed my Graduate Diploma specialising in orthopaedics. Supporting grad nurses throughout their graduate year is something I have always been passionate about.

I have been lucky enough to have the opportunity throughout my time with Calvary to work on the wards at both Launceston campuses and I just love the variety that I get working with graduates. Outside of work I love running and playing sports. I have a one-year-old Labrador who is extremely energetic and loves to take me for walks. If you can’t find me outside, then I am most likely baking or reading a book. I am extremely grateful to have my dream job of supporting new graduate nurses and I look forward to working with and supporting my new 2022 graduate group.
