North West Regional Hospital Updates (NWRH)

Surgical Ward Step 1 Grievance

The ANMF met with members on 17 January 2020  to discuss the progress of the Step 1 Grievance and seek feedback now that a response has been received from the Tasmanian Health Service.

Operating Suite

The ANMF met with members working in the NWRH Operating Suite on Friday  29 November 2019 to discuss workload concerns. Members reported meal breaks are often interrupted or “short” due to operational requirements. The ANMF have written formally to management outlining members concerns and a response has been received. The ANMF will schedule a meeting with members to seek feeback on the response received.

Medical Ward Step 1 Grievance

The ANMF met with members working on the NWRH Medical Ward Tuesday 3 December 2019 to review progress of the Step 1 Grievance. Members have ongoing concerns regarding sustained and excessive workloads. A member meeting to seek feedback is scheduled for 20 January 2020.

Emergency Department

The ANMF met with members working in the NWRH Emergency Department on 17 December 2019 to discuss professional and industrial issues. During this meeting, members reported that the trial of increased staffing levels has eased excessive workloads. A member meeting to seek further feedback on outcomes of the increased staffing trial will be scheduled for late March 2020.

Medical Oncology Unit

The ANMF met with members working in the NWRH Medical Oncology Unit on 16 January 2020 to discuss professional and industrial issues. Members raised several issues including excessive workloads.

The ANMF plan to write a letter to Tasmanian Health Service management on behalf of members to raise these issues. The ANMF will schedule another member meeting once a response has been received to seek feedback and plan next steps.

Midwifery Group Practice

The ANMF met with members working In the Midwifery Group Practice on 18 December 2019 to discuss professional and industrial issues and provide feedback on the Log  of Claims. Members raised several issues including recruitment to vacancies and excessive workloads.  The ANMF will explore appropriate avenues to pursue member concerns. A follow up meeting will be scheduled shortly to seek further direction and feedback from members.

Smithton District Hospital

The ANMF met with members working at Smithton District Hospital on 19 December 2019 to discuss professional and industrial issues. Members raised several issues including a change to afterhours services and excessive workloads. The ANMF wrote formally to management with these concerns. A members meeting has been scheduled for 22 January 2020 to discuss any response received, progress and gain feedback.

Mersey Leven Community Nursing

The ANMF met with members working at Mersey Leven Community Nursing on 7 January 2020. During this meeting, members raised issues including roster shortfalls and excessive workloads.  Formal notification of the Step 1 Grievance is in progress. The ANMF will schedule a meeting with members to discuss the progress of the Step 1 Grievance and seek feedback once a response is received.
