Mersey Community Hospital
Medical Ward
The ANMF and Workplace Representatives attended the Tasmanian Industrial Commission on 9 June 2020, for a report back conference to discuss workload concerns raised by MCH Medical Ward members. Following the conference, the ANMF can report that we have been successful in obtaining:
- a commitment to trial an extension of hours for the Hospital Aides,
- secured additional Clinical Nurse Educator hours rostered on the weekday morning shift,
- and Hospital Attendants will be participating in ward rounds to assist with nursing requirements.
The remaining outstanding concern of skill mix and the lack of support for the significant number of inexperienced staff working after hours where all other supports are absent, remains unresolved. This is a significant issue for members and the ANMF will write to Tasmanian Health Service management to raise these concerns. We will also be consulting with members following the report back conference on 7 July 2020. It is the opinion of the ANMF that until this concern is addressed, the grievance remains live, and workload and safe staffing levels remain a concern.
Updates correct as at 25 June 2020.
