Held annually, in Launceston and Hobart, this year’s event was moved into the digital space to ensure the day could proceed in 2020 while also adhering to safe social distancing. The interactive full day session covered post graduate program options, interview preparation, resume writing tips, employment opportunities, NMBA requirements, and more.

The workshop covered a range of informative topics from industry professionals and networks. Highlights on the day included discussions on graduate opportunities from staff at Calvary Health Care and Health Scope. Fiona Huskinson from Aged and Community Services Australia (ACSA) spoke to participants about aged care graduate opportunities in the state, while Michelle Woods from the University of Tasmania (UTAS) discussed future pathway opportunities for new graduates entering nuring as a career. Saz Newberry from the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) finished up the day with a session on understanding the importantce of registration requirements and how to meet this.

Over the day participants also heard from a range of industry representatives including HESTA and ME Bank. We are grateful to have the support of organisations such as these at our events to discuss the importance of superannuation and banking, particularly with our future healthcare professionals. Throughout the day we were pleased to see so many participants sign up to become student members. This is a great opportunity for them to experience the benefits of union membership before entering the workplace as nurses, midwives and/or care workers. In wrapping up the day, we were pleased to be able to announce our competition prize winner as a new student member from the North West. This lucky lady had a prize hamper valued at over $250 posted out to her.

We would like to thank all those who attended this year’s event and helped to make our first virtual Transition to Practice a positive, worthwhile experience for all. We wish all nursing, midwifery and care worker students the very best in using what they learned on the day to kickstart and equip them as they launch their careers in healthcare.
