Fixed Term Contracts

The ANMF have been advised that some members have been contacted directly by Tasmanian Health Service HR while other members (including those who are employed on a casual basis) may believe they also satisfy the criteria.

These are:

  • The fixed-term has been for a continuous period of 24 months
  • There is clearly an ongoing requirement for those duties or similar duties
  • There has been 3 or more consecutive fixed-term periods of employment
  • Employee preference for permanency is taken into account

If a Head of Agency does not change the employment status of a fixed-term nurse who meets all the criteria, the onus is on the Head of Agency to justify reasons why the status was not changed. The agreed timeframe for this process was 12 months. If you believe you satisfy the above, and would like a permanent position as a nurse or midwife (this is not necessarily a permanent position on your current ward/unit but a permanent position with the State Service) please send a summary of your response to the criteria above to  membersupport@anmftas.org.au and, if you appear eligible, then they will help progress your request.

More information on fixed-term contracts was sent to public sector members via email, this can be read here.

Updates correct as at 1 October 2020.
