Launceston General Hospital

Ward 4D

On Thursday 7 October, the ANMF attended a report back conference with the Tasmanian Industrial Commission regarding the consultation and change process for the Northern Coronary Care Unit beds. The outcome of the conference was that the Tasmanian Health Service will confirm in writing that when the beds reopen in 4D, staff who were deployed to the Acute Medical Unit will return to 4D. Further updates will be communicated to members via email.

Emergency Department

The ANMF attended a Step 2 Specialist Panel meeting on Tuesday 6 October, where the ANMF was presented with a staffing proposal to utilise the increase in Full Time Equivalents (FTEs) that was identified at the benchmarking meeting held on 23 September. The proposal will place extra nurses across the front of house and resus but will not address deficiencies related to the workload in the zones, mental health patient management (PEN’s), Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) FTE, clinical coach, oversight of the ramp, discharge planning, and Nurse Practitioner FTE. These positions will be critical in addressing member workloads and assisting in a department that is chronically bed blocked. The ANMF have received the results from the members survey. We are in the process of collating these and will schedule a meeting to discuss the results, to formulate a plan to move forward and resolve any outstanding workload issues on Ward 4O/B.
