Newsflash: Mersey Community Hospital Emergency Department

The Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation Tasmanian Branch (ANMF) were advised just prior to the announcement from The Minister of Health that the Mersey Community Hospital (MCH) Emergency Department (ED) will return to 24/7 services from 30 November 2020. This is a pleasing outcome and congratulate members for their dedication and flexibility during the COVID-19 outbreak and following with the reduced opening hours at the MCH.

Pleasingly, this announcement came with confirmation of an additional three medical staff members being recruited to enable the 24/7 operating hours of the ED to resume safely. The ANMF has also received confirmation that work will commence on supporting widespread training and education to nursing and medical staff in the MCH ED along with exploration of a Nurse Practitioner candidate model.

The commencement date of 30 November 2020 will allow time to finalise rosters and allow those working in other areas to return to the ED. The ANMF will arrange a member meeting to discuss this announcement along with regular meetings in the lead up to 30 November 2020 to ensure members are well supported.

If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact our Member Support Team on 1800 001 241. Alternatively, email membersupport@anmftas.org.au. Please note: Due to the COVID-19 situation, our Member Support Team is practicing social isolation and working from home. Bearing this in mind, email is the preferred and fastest way of contacting them.

Updates correct as at 28 October 2020.
