New Year, New Faces – Yasmin

Yasmin joins the ANMF as a part-time Member Engagement Officer in the North and North West. Yasmin will be working with members from Launceston to Stanley, Devonport to Campbell Town, and everywhere in between, ensuring they have regular contact with the ANMF office. She will be holding meetings, morning teas, and generally keeping up the lines of communication, so members always have someone available on the ground when they need them.

“In my new role with the ANMF, I hope to inspire and advocate for members regarding industrial issues and health and wellbeing. I want to be out and about meeting all of our wonderful hardworking nurses, midwives, and care workers to ensure they are protected and safe in their workplace,” Yasmin explains.

As an enrolled nurse with experience in aged and community care settings, Yasmin understands our members. “Nurses, midwives, and care workers play such a vital role in our everyday lives and they deserve to be respected, recognised, supported, and ultimately happy in the workplace.”

Yasmin has had an affinity to nursing from a young age, witnessing the ‘the compassion and support’ that was provided to her grandmother when she required palliative care.

“It was these nurses who inspired me to start my journey into nursing.” “I come from an aged care background, when I was 19, I started as a personal care assistant working in residential facilities, which was one of the most eye-opening experiences of my life.

While working I started studying my Diploma of Nursing at TAFE in South Australia and had my acute placement in palliative care which further ignited the passion for palliation and advocating quality of life for patients and residents.”

In 2014, having well and truly grown tired of the Adelaide heat, Yasmin moved to Launceston to start her ‘dream job’ in community nursing where her primary role is working with elderly clients providing in-home nursing care.
