Newsflash: Variation to the Nurses and Midwives Award
Various Allowances

These variations occur as a matter of course in line with changes with CPI and other formulas. The following allowances will change as of the first full pay period on or after 19 March 2021.

The new rates are as follows:

Part IV, Clause 9 Meal Allowance – rates

  • Breakfast $14.35
  • Lunch $16.15
  • Dinner $27.55

Part IV, Clause 9 Travel Allowance – meals

  • Breakfast $28.70
  • Lunch $32.30
  • Dinner $55.05Incidental travel allowance per night: $20.40

Kilometreage Allowance

Unfortunately, due to the complex calculation used to work out the kilometre allowance for all Awards in the public sector, the kilometre allowance has decreased slightly this year.

Part IV, Clause 8 (required user Kilometrage allowance)

  • Clause 8(a)(i) (10,000 km) now 75.66 cents per km (was 80.24)
  • Clause 8(a)(i) Additional km now 40.10 cents per km (was 42.53)Additional rates for occasional users have also changed.

The ANMF raised in written submissions, as well as in front of the Commission, a request to amend the way this calculation is completed for future years so that it might be better understood by the membership.  This will need to be the subject of discussion between the ANMF and the State Sector Management Office.

The ANMF continues to support nurses, midwives, and care workers as the only union in Tasmania employing nurses and care workers to represent members. This is why our Organisers and Member Support Team are uniquely positioned to understand your experiences, represent you in your workplace, and offer industrial advice that’s relevant to you.

Updates correct as at 25 March 2021.
Authorised by Emily Shepherd, ANMF Tasmanian Branch Secretary
