ANMF Newsflash: LGH ED

The Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation Tasmanian Branch (ANMF) have today lodged an urgent application with the Tasmanian Industrial Commission (TIC) in support of ANMF Emergency Department (ED) members and their ongoing issues with; access block, unsafe workloads, unsafe working environment, patient safety concerns, staff burnout/stress and increased staff turnover within the LGH ED.

The application has been lodged following reports of an unsafe department yesterday, a situation that is unfortunately a regular occurrence. The ANMF understands that there were 21 to 24 patients waiting for an inpatient bed, 60 patients being treated in the department, then at approximately 1600hrs, patients were being ramped outside resus bays and cubicles. This is a persistent and ongoing issue for our ED members and with a looming COVID crisis, the ANMF is taking decisive action.

The first phase of the strategy discussed with members and supported by the member resolution, passed on 21 September 2021 is underway. The ANMF is now in the process of actioning phase 2 and will provide further updates to members shortly.

Updates correct as at 28 September 2021.
