Member story: Debbie Coombes, Care Worker

Debbie Coombes is a Care Worker at Uniting AgeWell Ningana Independent Living at Sorell in the state’s south and became a carer after working in foster care.

She says it’s a demanding role, but very fulfilling.

“There are different challenges every day, but you learn new aspects of care with the new residents coming in.”

However, despite having support available, she believes more help is needed.

“When we deal with people that are passing away, I’d like to see extra support, and then when they have passed away, I’d like to see councillors come and maybe give people (fellow workers) a call. That would be important to a lot of people.”
