Member story: Roslyn Cruise, Enrolled Nurse

For 60-year-old Rosyln Cruise, working in aged care feels like a privilege every day.

The Enrolled Nurse has been working at Melaleuca, Home for the Aged in East Devonport for 40 years and has also worked in Community nursing in Latrobe for the last 12 years.

She enjoys helping people and in particular, caring for palliative patients.

“The most rewarding aspect of my job is in palliative care. The family is grateful, and the patient is grateful. It’s a privilege.”

She detailed a bittersweet moment a number of years ago, where a young mother was receiving palliative care and her four- or five-year-old daughter was by her bedside. The little girl said she wanted to become a nurse when she was older.

“That gave me goosebumps and highlighted the importance my job has on not only patients, but their families as well.”
