ANMF COVID-19 Newsflash: Public Sector Update

The ANMF have been working with the Department of Health and lobbying the Minister for Health to ensure that members have access to an additional 15-minute hydration and comfort break due to workloads and working while in PPE. The ANMF can now report that the Department of Health is consulting with the ANMF about the provision of additional time for fatigue management and hydration breaks.

In addition, the ANMF can report that representatives from the Minister of Health’s office have advised that the request from the ANMF to provide all members in the public sector an allowance during the pandemic is under active consideration. The Minister’s office has indicated that it is anticipated that a response on a PPE allowance will be forwarded to the ANMF prior to the end of the week.

The ANMF are pleased to report these positive discussions and anticipate positive and definitive advice will be able to be provided to public sector members within the coming days.

The ANMF also understand that there are still ongoing challenges in relation to staffing and ANMF are currently working to ensure that a workforce strategy is developed and communicated to members. Further information on this strategy will be communicated to members once available.

The ANMF acknowledge that these are trying and stressful times and encourage members to speak with their managers if they have concerns or alternatively be in touch with the ANMF via: membersupport@anfmtas.org.au

Please also ensure that you if you are struggling during this time, that you reach out for help. You can do so by accessing your own workplace Employee Assistance Program or Nurses and Midwives support is also available 24/7 via 1800 667 877.

Updates correct as at 12 January 2022.
