Public Sector Updates – North

Launceston General Hospital

The Crisis Assessment Treatment Team (CATT)

Following from the Step 2 Grievance raised by the ANMF in 2021 and progress through the early part of 2022, the ANMF can now advise that Mental Health Services (MHS) management is moving to establish 10-hour shifts, and it is expected that this will reduce the load on the CATT team and the need for a C shift. Further, with the implementation of this, MHS agrees that the current CATT model will need to be looked at. The ANMF is seeking clarification on the process for this. Further updates to follow.

Emergency Department (ED)

The ANMF has now received the survey results from members regarding the solutions gained from the 2021 Tasmanian Industrial Commission (TIC) application. This information, along with direct feedback from members, has indicated that the solutions are making a positive difference and that a process to monitor this going forward on a regular basis is supported. The ANMF will be scheduling a meeting with members in the Launceston General Hospital (LGH) ED shortly to discuss how this would look. Further details to follow.

LGH Roadshow Member Meetings

Over the last two weeks, the ANMF has attended member meetings in the LGH for 5A, 3D, 4O/B. The meetings have formed part of our annual member Roadshow engagements whereby members are provided feedback on what the ANMF is working towards for members, members can engage with us on local issues and have an opportunity to go into a draw by updating their details or signing up as a new or re-joined member. In relation to the above-mentioned wards, the ANMF was able to understand better the pressures that workload, overtime, double shifts, and COVID-19 precautions are bringing. This information has supported information provided by members in the Statewide survey sent in early January which has fed into the ANMF Tasmanian Industrial Commission application to seek an improvement to workloads. Further Roadshow meetings will be scheduled throughout March.

Updates correct as at 16 March 2022.
