The Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation (ANMF) Tasmanian Branch members will gather outside the Launceston General Hospital today taking industrial action in pursuit of better workloads and safe staffing.

The ANMF is pleased that following Strike action at the Royal Hobart Hospital last week, that the Premier presented a package of solutions to the ANMF on Tuesday evening for members consideration. This will be presented to members today at the LGH member action and via members communication channels, with ANMF Branch Council also to consider the proposal this Friday.

Key commitments contained in the proposal include:

  • A Return to Work Bonus of $2000 for recently resigned nurse and midwives
  • Trial of Clinical Coaches on all wards and units where 30% or more of the establishment is comprised by Novice Practitioners
  • Agreement to meet on Workforce Modelling
  • Trial of State-wide Transition to Practice Model – with immediate appointment to permanency (with 6 months’ probation)
  • Review of Current Vacancies and to assess positions for Enrolled Nurses
  • Expanded Virtual Care Options – For Hospital Avoidance
  • Improving Anti-Viral Access
  • Increased Private Hospital Support for Public Hospitals
  • Commencement Of Enterprise Agreement Negotiations to address Wages for Nurses and Midwives

“It’s pleasing to see that the Premier has listened to members concerns and has seriously considered appropriate solutions to address members workloads and safe staffing,” ANMF Branch Secretary, Emily Shepherd said.

While acknowledging that members will consider the proposal, it was not provided with sufficient notice to consider whether members supported a suspension of industrial activity today at the LGH but will be taken into account for future planned industrial action.

As a result, the ANMF member action outside the LGH will take place as planned and ANMF Tasmanian Branch Secretary will present the proposal to members at the action outside the LGH at 1:30pm today.
