The Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation (ANMF) Tasmanian Branch members will gather outside the Mersey Community Hospital today taking industrial action in pursuit of better workloads and safe staffing.
“Despite the Premier presenting a package of solutions last week and an ongoing dialogue between the ANMF and Government based on members feedback, members have decided to continue industrial action at the Mersey Community Hospital,” ANMF Branch Secretary, Emily Shepherd said.
“The ANMF presented the measures proposed by Government and the key response was the lack of measures to retain and recognise the existing nursing and midwifery workforce who have worked and continue to work incredibly hard over the COVID-19 pandemic.
“While the offer does provide positive measures for the medium to longer term, the main concern from members is that it doesn’t provide tangible solutions immediately, and further it rewards staff who have left the health service and fails to do so for those who have stayed to support health services and the community during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“It’s pleasing to see that the Premier has listened to members concerns and has seriously considered appropriate solutions to address members workloads and safe staffing, however the ANMF has put forward member feedback, in particular regarding retention incentives, and we are awaiting the Premier’s reply,” Ms Shepherd said.
