Southern Cross Care Tasmania (SCCT)

Household Model of Care

Keep an eye out for Southern Cross Care Tasmania (SCCT) meetings that the employer states they will be running with staff, relatives, and residents in your site. The ANMF strongly encourage members to engage with the process and let SCCT know what you think of the proposed changes.

ANMF Rally

The ANMF will be holding a rally outside SCCT Rosary Gardens on Friday 17 February 2023. Please attend the rally and express your dissatisfaction with SCCT and their plans to remove Enrolled Nurses (ENs) and Leisure and Lifestyle Officers (LLO). Bring along friends and family, and members from non-SCCT sites are also welcome to attend. These proposed changes may be coming to you!

Changing Workloads of Registered Nurses and Extended Care Assistants (ECAs)

In the absence of ENs, for obvious reasons, ANMF Registered Nurse (RN) and Care Worker members are reporting changes to roles and workloads. The ANMF request that these matters be reported through your internal reporting systems and to your line managers. In the absence of any response please send any evidence of impacts on workloads through to ANMF organisers or to our Member Support Team via email at Membersupport@anmftas.org.au, so we can follow up on your behalf.

Lack of Clinical Leadership

The ANMF still encourage members to feedback issues related to absence or instability of leadership, including inappropriate people management, in SCCT sites. Use internal SCCT reporting systems, and escalate to next level management, include P&C managers, if you can, to highlight the impact on your workload and morale. Notify the ANMF if you are unable to get a response from your internal systems, and managers.

North

Southern Cross Care Tasmania Mount Esk

The ANMF met with members from Mount Esk on Tuesday 31 January 2023. Members raised grave concerns over short staffing and what they feel to be bullying by Southern Cross Care Tasmania to have Care Workers administer medications, the shortfalls of the proposed Household Model of Care. Members are still “in limbo” over their jobs, and have their concerns for the welfare of residents.

Southern Cross Care Tasmania Glenara Lakes

The ANMF met with members at Glenara Lakes on Monday 30 January 2023. Members raised concerns over short staffing, the proposed Household Model of Care and the impact on residents and employees.

Calvary Care Riverside

The ANMF were contacted by members at Riverside enquiring about a COVID-19 policy/payment following an outbreak. Calvary Care Human Resources (HR) have returned with their response; COVID-19 leave is no longer payable if the employee has COVID-19. This will be processed as Personal leave, the only payment of COVID-19 leave, is if they have been directed by the home to not present to work.

It appears that Calvary Care will deduct sick/personal leave from your sick leave balance for permanent/part time employees, while casual employees will not receive any payment. If you have any questions regarding your entitlements, the ANMF encourages members to raise them with your facility manager/HR in the first instance.

Respect Freemasons Home

The ANMF has met with members and taken feedback from those impacted by the roster change issue. Respect have delayed implementation, presented several specimen rosters, and taken on feedback from anyone with concerns. A final version roster will be released in early February 2023. Please contact the ANMF if you are still struggling to accommodate the changes to your roster.
