Launceston General Hospital (LGH)

Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

On Friday 7 July 2023 the ANMF met with members on ICU to discuss workload issues. Members reported persistent requirements to work overtime and double shifts to cover baseline rosters, diluted skill mix, limited time to complete mandatory training and delayed access to annual leave. As a result, members have endorsed the ANMF to raise a Nursing Hours per Patient per Day (NHpPD) Step 1 Workload Grievance on their behalf. The ANMF is now in the process of formalising this grievance with a letter to management. Further member updates to follow.

Ward 6D

On Friday 7 July 2023 the ANMF met with Ward 6D members to discuss workload issues. Members reported persistent requirements to work overtime and double shifts to cover baseline rosters, diluted skill mix, missed meal breaks and patient specials causing workloads. As a result, members have endorsed the ANMF to raise a NHpPD Step 1 Workload Grievance on their behalf. The ANMF is now in the process of formalising this grievance with a letter to management. Emergency Department (ED)

On Monday 10 July 2023, the ANMF met with Emergency Department (ED) members to discuss workload issues. Members reported persistent requirements to work overtime and double shifts to cover baseline rosters, diluted skill mix (particularly in regards triage capable nurses), persistent bed/access block, overcrowding and no access to after hours Pathology and X-ray which is compounding access block. As a result, members have endorsed the ANMF to raise a new NHpPD Step 1 Workload Grievance on their behalf. The ANMF is now in the process of formalising this grievance with a letter to management. Ward 5D

On Monday 10 July 2023, the ANMF met with Ward 5D members to discuss workload issues. Members reported persistent requirements to work overtime and double shifts to cover baseline rosters, diluted skill mix, increased acuity, booked admissions being delayed due to ED bed flow priority (note, members remain happy to support ED and flow, but this also has flow on for workloads for 5D that require consideration). As a result, members have endorsed the ANMF to raise a NHpPD Step 1 Workload Grievance on their behalf. The ANMF is now in the process of formalising this grievance with a letter to management. Ward 3R

On Tuesday 11 July 2023, the ANMF met with Ward 3R members to discuss workload issues. Members reported persistent requirements to work overtime and double shifts to cover baseline rosters, diluted skill mix, increased acuity and Night Duty staffing levels. As a result, members have endorsed the ANMF to raise a NHpPD Step 1 Workload Grievance on their behalf. The ANMF is now in the process of formalising this grievance with a letter to management.
