Aged Care Updates – Statewide

May Shaw Enterprise Agreement (EA) 2023

The ANMF has secured a new EA covering nurses and care workers at May Shaw (both Swansea and Scottsdale facilities), with excellent outcomes for members. In the first year of the agreement, Swansea wage rates will increase by 20.75% plus 77 cents an hour. Members covered by the Presbyterian Care Agreement or Non-Nurse Scottsdale Agreement, who are currently paid less than Swansea wage rates, will be paid at the increased Swansea rates, finally bringing pay equity to May Shaw employees. In addition, all nurses have secured an additional 2% all-purpose allowance and an additional week of annual leave per year.

The new agreement also includes the following new entitlements: 2 days’ paid vaccination leave when an employee has an adverse reaction, 2 days’ infectious disease testing leave per instance when an employee cannot work from home, 1 week’s paid and 1 week’s unpaid infectious disease leave, 5 days’ paid reproductive health leave and pregnancy loss leave.

The ANMF congratulates members on standing together and refusing to settle for earlier offers. The employer will now lodge the agreement in the Fair Work Commission (FWC) for approval.

Calvary Aged Care

Calvary continues to forge ahead with the intention to rename Enrolled Nurses (ENs) “Team Leaders” and despite receiving letters from their own staff asking for clarity around the role in aged care facilities, Calvary sees no concern in their recently updated selection criteria stating holders of both medication endorsed and non-medication endorsed Diploma of Enrolled Nursing will be considered for this position. It also appears the general manager has revoked his offer to help redeploy ENs to the Calvary Hospital. The ANMF urges all members to carefully consider any new employment contract offered by Calvary before signing.
