Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH)

Emergency Department (ED)

On Wednesday 13 September 2023, the ANMF met with local Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH) Emergency Department (ED) management to relay and discuss member concerns raised at recent member meetings, including but not limited to payroll issues, clinical initiatives nurse role, ambulance ramping etc. These conversations were productive and have resulted in some pertinent feedback to be presented at the next members meeting, which will be convened soon. Additionally, it is agreed that the Tasmanian Health Service (THS) and the ANMF will continue to action several issues ongoing in an effort to find better, more efficient ways of working.

Acute Rehabilitation Unit – Peacock 2 (Repatriation Centre)

On Monday 18 September 2023, the ANMF attended a second benchmarking meeting at which the THS declared its intention to re-classify all 18 beds within the unit to Category D at a total Nursing Hours per Patient Day (NHpPD) of 5.0 hours per day. This point notwithstanding, the THS has proposed to increase current staffing levels with an additional shift on Saturday and Sunday respectively, as well as urgent progression of ancillary Extended Care Assistant (ECA) resources to reinforce staffing for the sake of heavier manual handling tasks etc. An ANMF meeting has been arranged for Wednesday 27 September 2023 to present findings to members and seek their resolution (or rejection) of the proposed outcomes.

Department of Critical Care Medicine (DCCM)

The ANMF has received several contacts from DCCM members relaying concerns regarding the progression of the recent move into the H-Block pod and implications for patient and staff safety. Further enquiries are being made with individuals and a member meeting is being sought to allow members to collectively submit any/all concerns – confirmation of a date/time for this to follow via separate flyer.

Updates correct as at 20 September 2023.
