Public Sector Updates – North

Launceston General Hospital (LGH)

Ward 6D

The ANMF has highlighted discrepancies in the allocation of Category A patients between Ward 6D, Ward 5D, and AMU. The ANMF has asked for a review, emphasising that higher acuity patients require equal nursing care regardless of DRG classification.

Additionally, the ANMF is actively pursuing the resolution of outstanding grievances raised by members. Despite previous efforts, several recommendations from Thursday 30 November 2023, remain unaddressed. The ANMF has been authorised to escalate these grievances to Step 3 and apply to the Tasmanian Industrial Commission if necessary.

To address these concerns, the ANMF suggested to THS management reconvening Ward 6D benchmarking with a focus on reallocating Category A beds. This strategic move aims to identify potential staffing increases to meet member concerns satisfactorily.

Specialist Clinics

The ANMF can confirm that a proposal has been discussed and negotiated between the ANMF and the Chief Executive North (CE-N) and the Executive Director of Nursing and Midwifery (EDONM) which the ANMF believes is a reasonable way forward. This is outlined below for members consideration:

  • The previous Step 2 Workload Grievance Specialist Panel will be reconvened to immediately begin establishing a contemporary and workload and staffing model for the Specialist Clinics.
  • That the change proposal consultation will continue, with rescheduled meetings for Monday at 8am to enable all members to attend. However, a final decision and implementation will not occur until a contemporary staffing model is agreed and implemented. This will also allow for feedback on the proposed changes.

The ANMF are now seeking your views to ensure that you are comfortable with the proposal as outlined above. Please complete the survey to let us know your thoughts. The survey will remain open until 0900hrs on Friday 17 May 2024.

Updates are correct as of 15 May 2024.
