ANMF Media Alert: Safe Hospitals Save Lives ‘Code Yellow’

The Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation Tasmanian Branch (ANMF) are issuing a Code Yellow alert on behalf of LGH ED members after ANMF members activated the Code Yellow Alert overnight Thursday 8 August and again Friday 9 August 2024.

ANMF Members have activated the ANMF led Code Yellow after staffing levels on overnight on Thursday night shift and Friday morning, fell below the required staffing levels. Members have also indicated that on Friday morning 20 patients admitted are awaiting transfer out of ED into an inpatient bed and one patient has been waiting over 39 hours for an inpatient bed.

The ANMF encourage all Northern Tasmanian Community members to consider if they can access health care via an alternative avenue rather than the LGH ED. However, members of course encourage anyone with an emergency health matter to present and you will receive safe and quality care.

The ANMF are issuing the public ANMF CODE YELLOW ALERT as the Department and Government will not and no additional resources have been provided to the LGH ED to assist with increased workloads due to the Transfer of Care procedure.
