Public Sector Updates – North

Launceston General Hospital (LGH)

Emergency Department (ED)

On Friday 4 October 2024, the ANMF met with LGH Emergency Department ED members to discuss the proposed model for implementing 28 additional Full Time equivalent (FTE). While members endorsed the model, they raised concerns about the 6-month fixed-term nature of the additional Clinical Nurse Education (CNE) and nursing support roles. Members believe this timeframe may not provide adequate onboarding and support for new staff, referencing the 18-month recruitment period for the previous Tasmanian Industrial Commission (TIC) FTE recruitment process. The ANMF has raised this with Tasmanian Health Service (THS) management and are now waiting on a response.

Emergency Nurses Day at LGH ED

On Wednesday 9 October 2024, the ANMF attended the LGH ED for Emergency Nurses Day. In celebration, the ANMF handed out Lifesavers as a small token of appreciation for the hard work and dedication of the LGH ED nurses, giving them a sweet treat to help them through to the end of their shift.
