Event Celebration: 100 Years of the ANMF

On Thursday 31 October 2024, the ANMF Tasmanian Branch proudly celebrated its centenary, honouring a remarkable legacy of advocacy and support for nurses and midwives. The celebration was hosted by ANMF Tasmanian Branch Secretary Emily Shepherd and included guests such as the Tasmanian Health Minister Jacquie Petrusma, Independent David O’Byrne, and Greens MP Helen Burnet.
The event featured inspiring guest speakers, including ANMF Life Member Lorraine Bailey, who has dedicated over 44 years to the organisation, serving in various leadership roles including Branch Councillor, Vice President, and President. Lorraine’s contributions have been instrumental in shaping the ANMF’s mission. Joining her was Irene McInerney, a passionate Registered Nurse and Aged Care Advocate, who has actively championed the rights of aged care workers and represented the ANMF during the National ratio campaign. Rounding out the speakers was Kerrie Duggan, an inspiring Nurse Practitioner and co-owner of the Cygnet Family Practice, who has been pivotal in advancing the Nurse Practitioner role and advocating for innovative healthcare delivery.
The event concluded with a heartfelt toast to 100 years of the ANMF, accompanied by food and refreshments, marking a significant milestone in the ongoing commitment to the profession’s future.
