Update: Ongoing industrial action

31 October 2018

As a part of ongoing industrial action during the Public Sector Enterprise Agreement process there has been a number of stop work meetings held across the state. The largest of these being the combined unions action held on Wednesday 24 October as part of the combined ACTU Change the Rules and Tasmanians Need a Pay Rise campaign. As a result of this action ANMF has been informed that members in some sites have been told that they must put their names on a written list if they wish to attend a stop work meeting. As a necessary part of each stop work meeting the ANMF are obliged to write to the Tasmanian Health Service (THS) Secretary to inform them of the upcoming action.

As part of this information we remind the THS that nurses and midwives who participate in these actions use meal breaks and TOIL to cover this time away from the workplace and that members always ensure patient safety with no less than night duty staffing left on each ward and unit.

ANMF do not support the notion that members should list their names if they are choosing to attend stop work meetings during their flex or meal breaks.

ANMF remind members that attending stop work meetings is a right they have to choose. If you are having issues please contact the ANMF Member Support Team on (03) 6223 6777 or 1800 001 241 if outside Hobart. Alternatively you can email membersupport@anmftas.org.au.
