Today, the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation (ANMF) Tasmanian Branch will open its 2022 Annual Delegates Conference with close to 40 attendees from aged care, public and private sectors from around the State.

Delegates will receive a number of presentations both from within the ANMF including from the Federal Secretary Annie Butler and also from a number of health care professionals who have been instrumental in effecting change within the healthcare environment.

Tasmanian Labor Leader Rebecca White will also give an address on the key challenges facing the health sector and how we can better recruit and retain staff. A panel following Ms White’s speech is also scheduled with Greens Spokesperson for Health Rosalie Woodruff, Labor’s Shadow Health Minister Anita Dow, and the Federal Secretary.

Premier and Health Minister Jeremy Rockliff was invited to attend the event, however declined the invitation due to prior commitments.

Further presentations will be given by ANMF delegates themselves highlighting their success stories in relation to driving positive change as ANMF workplace delegates.

“It is a fantastic opportunity to get together in person this year, after so many disruptions due to COVID-19. We thank our members for their hard work in very challenging circumstances,” said ANMF Tasmanian Branch Secretary, Emily Shepherd.

“COVID-19 is not over, and with number of influenza cases rising this winter, it’s now more important than ever to acknowledge the dedication of our members and the health workforce as a whole.

“We have seen incredible team work over the last few years. The next couple of days are a chance for the ANMF to say thank you to our dedicated Representatives (Rep) in the workplace.

“We are also announcing our Faye Hoppitt Rep of the Year Award at a dinner tonight. This award recognises the outstanding work a Rep has done during a difficult workplace issue, offered support or inspired an unprecedented number of members to sign up. We have been overwhelmed with the entries this year,” Ms Shepherd said.
