The Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation Tasmanian Branch (ANMF) has finally received a revised offer from the Tasmanian Government for Tasmanian public sector nurses and midwives to consider following 10 months of Enterprise Bargaining for a replacement agreement.
The ANMF refused an offer on behalf of members after seeking further clarification on a pay deal the Government referred to as pay point re-structure. On Monday 28 August the ANMF wrote to the State Service Management Office, stating that the proposed wages offer did not reflect discussions held between the parties. The ANMF advised that it would not be an adequate offer to address the critical concerns of recruitment, retention, and an equitable offer for Public Sector nursing and midwifery members that achieves above National average wages.
‘The latest offer from the Government, which has been endorsed to go to vote by the ANMF Tasmanian Branch Executive, does address the need to be competitive with other states and territories with regard to wages and does address many of the log of claim items put forward by ANMF on behalf of members,’ said ANMF Tasmanian Branch President James Lloyd today.
Critical aspects to the agreement, include strategies to aid in retention with transfer of permanency across the career structure, such assistants in nursing transferring permanency to an Enrolled Nursing or Registered Nursing role, improvements to night shift penalty rate, a commitment to work together toward a ratio workload model over the life of the agreement and competitive salaries with the rest of Australia.
The offer will be put to a formal vote of members in the coming week prior to the ANMF responding on behalf of members.
