The reforms promised to improve aged care aren’t delivering for workers, residents or clients.
AGED CARE REFORMS SHOULDN’T TAKE A LIFETIME!
After our hard work campaigning for positive change back in 2018, over 140 Royal Commission recommendations were adopted to improve aged care safety and quality. But now in Tasmania, our members tell us that where these reforms have been implemented, they haven’t achieved their goals… sometimes it’s made delivering care worse for staff, residents, and clients.
That’s why ANMF Tasmania are launching our “AGED CARE REFORMS SHOULDN’T TAKE A LIFETIME!” campaign.
We are calling on the Federal Government to:
- Replace mandated care minutes with enforceable ratios that guarantee an appropriate skill mix (20% ENs, 30% RNs, 50% Care Workers).
- Map out clear job role responsibilities so care workers can focus on care and nurses can focus on clinical nursing, rather than being stretched thin.
- Enforce strict funding transparency so taxpayer funding goes directly to staffing and direct care in facilities and the community.
Older Tasmanians deserve quality care, and our aged care workforce deserves safe, supported workplaces. Neither can wait any longer.
