Session Overview

HERC’s CPD sessions are changing to keep up with the progressing needs of our learners! We are pleased to announce that we now have an online learning platform accessible 24/7 for you to complete the theoretical components of courses allowing you to come to us for the practical session only.

New structure details
Gain access to the online learning portal 1 week prior to the practical session, then book into one of the 2 hour face-to-face sessions for your hands on experience.

Practical session details
Practical sessions are being offered on Wednesday 13 November 2024 at at 182 Macquarie Street, Hobart at the following times:

  • 9:00am-11:00am
  • 11:30am-1:30pm
  • 2:30pm -4:30pm (numbers pending)

What to expect

In the two-hour practical workshop, participants will be reviewing back to basics knowledge on the venous system and vein selection for cannulation. They will also learn the theory of phlebotomy and related essential knowledge, the theory of cannulation, best practice techniques, and device selection. Enjoy getting involved with a practical session in which participants can utilise the skills they have learned in a simulated environment.

Presenters – Ashley White, HERC Education Manager

Ashley White, the Education Manager at the Health Education & Research Centre (HERC), is a Registered Nurse with a Bachelor of Nursing from UTAS (2007) and a Graduate Certificate in Oncology. After 12 years in Oncology, she shifted to education, earning a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. She joined HERC as a Nurse Educator in 2018 and is now developing a nationally accredited Advanced Diploma of Nursing course to enhance Enrolled Nurses’ skills and knowledge in various health care settings.
