ANMF celebrating IWD

This Sunday, 8 March 2020, is International Women’s Day 2020 (IWD2020). A day in which we remind ourselves that we can actively choose to challenge stereotypes, fight bias, broaden perceptions, improve situations and celebrate women’s achievements.

In 2020, the theme for IWD2020 is #EachForEqual – the objective being to create a change in which an equal world is an enabled world – and that individually, we are all responsible for our own thoughts and actions.

Our members share some visions for gender equality in the healthcare sector, to share your stories this International Women’s Day simply fill in the form below or email us at marketing@anmftas.org.au.

“As a Registered Nurse and a woman, I want to see more equality across the healthcare sector. Nursing and midwifery are female dominated occupations and our pay should reflect our value and sacrifice to put others first, despite the area of nursing we work in.”

Trudy Williams, Registered Nurse (LGH)

“I hope that women continue to expand their roles within nursing and midwifery as they do now – working as advocates for their patients and continuing to share new and innovate ideas to better the nursing profession.”

Stephanie Lee, Registered Nurse (LGH)

“Flexibility and role diversity, distinct career pathways, pay parity with male colleagues and encouragement to pursue roles traditionally held my males in our field.”

Susan Henrys, Registered Nurse (LGH)

Share your story with us

As a female dominated profession, and in conjunction with the World Health Organisation’s announcement that 2020 will be the Year of the Nurse and the Midwife, we are calling on members to share their stories with us. These can be stories of leadership, perserveriance or intiative. They can celebrate strengths, achievements, wins and everything in between. These stories can even be about your ward, unit, workplace or colleague. What we do want though is for this to be the year of shared experiences and well deserved recognition for our nurses, midwives and care workers.
