Update: Member Meeting

3 October 2018

ANMF held a member meeting at Calvary St John’s campus on the 2 October. Members raised concerns at this meeting and with the ANMF directly in regard to increased workloads and no staffing increases to reflect increased patient acuity levels. Members have also raised work health and safety concerns.

ANMF have advised members to approach management in the first instance regarding workloads (as per Calvary EA, Appendix A Principles of Workload management, p60-62), as stated in the current Calvary Health Care Tasmania (Lenah Valley and St John’s Campuses) Nursing Staff Enterprise Agreement 2016 (p60):

2.2 Reasonable workload principles will include at each ward and unit level the Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) consulting with nursing staff to determine the clinical needs of the patients for the purpose of staffing.

ANMF have also advised members to report work health and safety issues through processes such as Incident Reports, Hazard Reports, and following this up with their Nurse Unit Managers (NUM).

ANMF will continue to monitor this situation and will update members as information is received. Another member meeting will be held at Calvary St John’s on 15 October from 3pm to 4pm in the Training Room.
