Aged care is not fixed: The ANMF launches national campaign

9 September, 2026

Launched at Parliament House in Canberra, the ANMF’s ‘Australia needs care you can count on’ campaign is calling for urgent aged care reforms, including:

  • Accountability and transparency for $25 billion in public aged care funding.
  • Mandated staffing ratios and skills mix across all shifts to improve care quality.
  • Protection from workplace violence and aggression for nurses and care workers.

The campaign follows the ANMF’s national Pulse Check survey, which found ongoing understaffing, workplace violence, cost-cutting and a lack of transparency in aged care.

ANMF Federal Secretary Annie Butler said frontline workers continued to report systemic issues affecting care quality, despite reforms following the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety.

The campaign calls for enforceable reforms that put older Australians’ care ahead of provider profits and ensure nurses and care workers are properly protected, supported and resourced.
