The key areas discussed at the working group included a staff survey regarding client allocation and clinical load, a review of workflow processes and referral forms, the development of data collection forms, a review of the IPM process and the collection and analysis of data. Work continues to progress on the model tool with the next meeting scheduled for 17 September 2019.

Launceston General Hospital (LGH) Update

Safe Staffing

The ANMF recently attended the Launceston General Hospital (LGH) Safe Staffing meeting where we continued to advocate for the multiple wards and areas that are under significant workload pressure within the hospital. During this meeting, the ANMF noted that the data presented indicated that ward 4D continues to operate above its 24 permanently funded bed numbers, placing our members under consistent and significant strain.

The ANMF have also requested that a date be set for the Specialist Clinics Working Group to discuss the current model of care. This group has been initiated via a workload grievance that was raised by the ANMF on behalf of members.

Northside

ANMF officials met with members working on Northside at the LGH on 11 September 2019 to discuss and seek feedback on the cultural review and processes subsequent to this review. On the direction of, and following feedback from, members the ANMF have arranged a meeting with THS Human Resources on Friday 20 September. Following this meeting the ANMF will schedule a member meeting to provide feedback to members and take further direction if necessary.

Ward 4D

ANMF met with members working on 4D at the LGH on 12 September 2019. At this meeting, members raised concerns regarding sustained and excessive workloads. The ANMF will write a letter to THS management on behalf of our members outlining their concerns. The ANMF will schedule another member meeting once a response has been received to seek further direction from members.

Updates are correct as of 18 September 2019.
