Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH) Updates

Whittle Ward

The ANMF held a member meeting at Whittle Ward on Tuesday 21 January at 1430hrs to discuss developments with the Car Parking Change Proposal along with workload and staffing issues.

Ward 2J – General Medicine

The ANMF will hold a member meeting at 2J on Monday 3 February at 1400hrs. There is no agenda for this meeting, however all existing and prospective members are encouraged to attend to contribute to an open-forum discussion.

Ward 1H – Neurosurgical Unit

The ANMF held a well-attended member meeting on Ward 1H of the Royal Hobart Hospital on Thursday 16 January 2020. The ANMF will liaise with ward management on all matters discussed and will schedule another feedback meeting .

Ward 8A – Outpatient Oncology

The ANMF held a well-attended member meeting on Ward 8A on Thursday 16 January 2020 where ongoing developments regarding the Day Worker/Shift Worker change proposal were discussed. The ANMF have since contacted senior management who have provided answers to several of the key points raised at this meeting. Members will be notified of these outcomes shortly.

Department of Psychiatry (DoP)

The ANMF held a member meeting at the Department of Psychiatry (DoP) on 16 January 2020. Ongoing issues in DoP relate to staffing levels and workloads. Work on Nursing Hours per Patient Day (NHpPD) are ongoing, with a meeting taking place between the Executive Director of Nursing for Mental Health Services (EDON MHS) Adie Gibbons and ANMF Tasmanian Branch Secretary Emily Shepherd to review how the tool is being used to calculate staffing numbers for the service. The ANMF is committed to ensuring the tool is appropriate for calculating the number of nursing staff required to safely run the service both now and into the future.

Mental Health Hospital in The Home

The ANMF met with members as well as the Nurse Unit Manager for the Mental Health Hospital in The Home (MHHITH) service in November and December 2019. Issues raised by members during these meetings are currently being addressed by management, but the ANMF will continue to visit regularly and meet with both members and management until all issues are resolved. The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday 30 January 2020 with meeting flyers to follow.

Correctional Primary Health Service: Risdon Prison

The ANMF met with members of the Correctional Primary Health Service (CPHS) on 6 January 2020. A number of ongoing matters raised are detailed in the latest newsflash sent out to members on 9 January 2020. Click here to read.

Three new Health and Safety Representatives have been nominated and the ANMF would like to thank: Amanda Bucirde, Sam Clifford and Liz Wolfgram for putting their hands up to take on such an important role for their workplace. We appreciate your service and look forward to working with each of you!

Millbrook Rise

The ANMF met with members on 15 January 2020. Members have elected to handle issues internally at this stage, and the ANMF will following any changes or developments in relation to these issues. Further assistance will be provided to members by the ANMF as requested.
