Leave
In the past fortnight, the ANMF have been involved in multiple discussions with officials in public sector and private sectors in relation to leave entitlements for those who are either required to self-isolate or who become unwell (with work exposure) to COVID-19. We have been lobbying the Tasmanian and Australian Government’s to allow all casual nurses, midwives and care workers to access two weeks paid leave if required to self-isolate. We are pleased to say this request has been agreed to by the Tasmanian Government for public sector members (including casual members). This is a small step in the COVID-19 pandemic but an important one to ensure the health and safety of our members. We will continue lobbying nationally for all private sector workers and will keep you updated.
Stand Downs
It has been stressful for members to find that some private sector hospital employers have been standing staff down because of the cancellation of elective surgery. The ANMF have been in contact with these employers and have also sought an assurances from the Tasmanian Minister for Health that these nurses will be offered temporary contracts in the public sector if they wish to accept such work. More updates will be provided via email as they come to hand.
Training and PPE
All of the States public hospitals have now had confirmed cases of COVID-19 present to these facilities. This has left our members on high alert. We have been working closely with members in these workplaces. We would like to take the opportunity to remind all nurses, midwives and care workers of the importance of adhering to the Australian Government Department of Health’s guidelines on the use of PPE at all times. If you would like training on this, we have free COVID-19 training available online for members here. Simply use the code located in our 1 April 2020 eNews emailed to members to access this offer. Additionally, if you have concerns surrounding the availability of PPE, please contact our Member Support Team so we can support you and keep you safe.
Thank you
We wish to commend all nurses, midwives and care workers on your amazing work during this evolving crisis – particularly your professionalism and dedication. We are with you and here to support you.
