Mersey Community Hospital (MCH)
Medical Ward
The ANMF attended the Tasmanian Industrial Commission (TIC) to raise ongoing workload concerns and secure additional resourcing to maintain safe staffing on the Mersey Community Hospital (MCH) Medical Ward. We will be holding further conversations with Tasmanian Health Service (THS) management prior to a report back conference with the Commission on 7 April 2020. Medical Day Procedure – Oncology Unit Grievance
ANMF officials met with members working on the Medical Oncology Unit at the MCH on 25 March 2020. This meeting was to review the THS response to the Step 2 Grievance. Members acknowledged that due to the ANMF’s assistance with securing recruitment to vacant FTE and the provision of a ward aide, some workload concerns have now been alleviated. However, members continue to have questions regarding the workplace bench marking tool. They have asked the ANMF to seek clarity on their behalf. A formal correspondence to THS is being drafted by the ANMF at the time of writing. Once a response is received, we will schedule a meeting with members to review the findings and seek direction on actions moving forward.
North West Regional Hospital (NWRH)
Medical Oncology Unit Grievance
ANMF officials met with members working on the NWRH Medical Oncology Unit on 25 March 2020. This meeting was organised to review the response back from the Tasmanian Health Service (THS) in regards to the Step 2 Grievance. Following this, members directed the ANMF to seek further clarity on their behalf regarding the workplace benchmarking tool. Formal correspondence from the ANMF is currently underway. Once a response back from THS has been received, we will schedule a meeting with members to review the findings and response and decide on actions moving forward.
Operating Suite
ANMF officials met with members working in the Operating Suite at the NWRH on 25 February 2020, to discuss workload concerns. Formal correspondence has been sent to the employer and the ANMF are awaiting a response to this. Once an update has been received, we will schedule a meeting with members to review the findings and seek further direction.
Emergency Department
ANMF officials met with members working in the Emergency Department (ED) at the NWRH on 17 December 2019, to discuss professional and industrial issues. Members report trial of increased staffing levels has eased excessive workloads. A survey of members is being developed and will be sent out shortly. We encourage members wokring in ED to complete the survey to ensure your input into the extended trial is counted.
Smithton District Hospital Nursing Workload Grievance
ANMF officials met with the Director of Nursing at Smithton District Hospital on 10 March 2020, to clarify the employers response to the Step 1 Grievance. The ANMF will be schedule a meeting with members shortly to discuss the grievance response and seek further direction.
AIN Working Party
The ANMF met with members at the North West Regional Hospital Medical Ward and Mersey Community Hospital Medical Ward to obtain feedback regarding the proposed trial of Assitants in Nursing (AIN). The ANMF remain in support of a trial of AIN’s in the North West, however, any AIN hours for trial would need to be in addition to the benchmarked nursing hours. Read the full newsflash here.
King Island District Hospital
ANMF officials met with members working on King Island on 24 March 2020, to discuss professional and industrial issues. Members from King Island District Hospital raised several issues including recruitment and access to education. They asked that the ANMF seek clarity on their behalf from the Director of Nursing (DON). The ANMF will schedule a teleconference with the DON and report back to members following this.
Mersey Leven Community Nursing Grievance
ANMF officials met with Tasmanian Health Service (THS) management on 25 March 2020, to explore options for resolving the Step 1 Workload Grievance. Following the receipt of undertakings in writing, the ANMF will meet with members to review the findings and seek further direction. Read the full newsflash here.
