Public Sector Updates – North West

Mersey Community Hospital

Emergency Department

The ANMF met with members on 23 November in the Mersey Community Hospital Emergency Department to provide industrial support. The 24/7 reopening of the Emergency Department has been welcomed by members and the community.

Medical Ward

The ANMF met with members at Mersey Community Hospital Medical Ward on 10 November. Members resolved in principle support for a trial of Assistants in Nursing (AIN) provided the AIN component is in addition to the current agreed staffing of 9,9,4 for 30 patients. Formal feedback has been provided to Tasmanian Health Service management; members will be kept informed of progress via email. Read the latest communication to members here.

Day Surgery Unit and Operating Theatre Redevelopment

On behalf of members, ANMF officials attended the Joint Industrial Consultative Committee (JICC) meeting for the Day Surgery Unit and Operating Theatre redevelopment on 9 November 2020. The terms of reference along with standing agenda items were agreed. Members from Day Surgery Unit and Operating Theatre are reminded that should they wish to attend the JICC contact our Member Support Team. The next meeting with members will be held on 1 February 2021.

North West Regional Hospital

Medical Ward

An ANMF member meeting was held on 5 November to discuss the progress of the Step 2 Grievance. Continuing workload issues along with solutions proposed by members has been formally provided to Tasmanian Health Service management. Read the latest communication to members here.

North West Maternity Services

On 11 November, the ANMF Branch Secretary met with members of the review team who are reviewing the quality, safety, and management in North West Maternity Services. During this meeting the ANMF were able to provide feedback that has been received regarding safety, quality, and governance matters on behalf of midwives within the Tasmanian Health Service as well as those working at the North West Private Hospital.
