Royal Hobart Hospital ward 9KW

Update – Royal Hobart Hospital ward 9KW

Various other concerns regarding state-wide consistency of the application of the Nursing Hours per Patient Day model were discussed, with these to be points of discussion at additional meetings between the parties.

The directions from the Commission following this conference are as follows:

  • The Royal Hobart Hospital immediately commence local Safe Staffing meetings in line with the requirement in the Agreement.
  • A NHpPD Workload Monitoring Committee (benchmarking meeting) needs to be conducted in respect of Ward 9KW on or before Thursday 17 December 2020.
  • At the benchmarking meeting the data is share and directly entered into the etool to ensure accuracy of the etool. Discussions are conducted on the increased physical layout that members have reported sees them doing 18,000 steps on one shift to include adequate nursing resourcing to account for this as per the requirement under the model at Appendix C of the Agreement. That discussion continue regarding the average occupancy, as when at 97% there are clearly only a matter of hours in a day where a bed may be empty. The ANMF would suggest that it is more than reasonable to fund the ward at maximum occupancy in this circumstance.
  • The ANMF are required to report back to the Presidents Chambers via email as to the progress of the matter on 18 December 2020

The ANMF will conduct a meeting with members following the benchmarking meeting on 17 December 2020 to consult with them and take further direction.

Updates correct as at 26 November 2020.
