Newsflash: ANMF vs Tasmanian Health Service – TIC Outcome of Industrial Dispute regarding CCTV in High Dependency Unit Patient Rooms

The Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation Tasmanian Branch (ANMF) officials attended the Tasmanian Industrial Commission (TIC) on Wednesday 18 November. The ANMF provided a response to advice provided by the Solicitor-General to the Tasmanian Health Service (THS). 

The ANMF has continued to argue that there appears to be a case for continuing to use cameras in the HDU and has asserted that in the interest of front line staff and Work Health and Safety issues raised by members, the most responsible way forward would be to explore this.

Agreed outcomes:

  • Consultation period for the Change Proposal titled ‘removal of cameras in HDU’ will remain open not to a set date but for ‘events’. These events will include:
    • Input from the CCTV Work Health & Safety Reference Group;
    • Applicants make submissions in reference to discussions held in the CCTV Work Health & Safety Reference Group; and
    • A decision is made in response to information received through the consultation process and what is learnt through the CCTV Work Health & Safety Reference Group.
  • The CCTV Work Health & Safety Reference Group will continue to meet beyond closure of the consultation process, as per Section 2 Role and Function of the Terms of Reference.
  • President Barclay included in his summary that it might be decided by the CCTV Work Health & Safety Reference Group that the safest way to staff the HDU is that cameras should be kept in all or some of the patient’s bedrooms.
  • There will now be a four-week adjournment to 17 December 2020 and report back has been requested from the ANMF via email. If an additional conference is required a request will be made prior to this date

A member’s meeting will be arranged to discuss the above outcomes with the Workplace Representative. Details will be provided to the meeting once available.
