Royal Hobart Hospital

Surgical Specialties and Orthopaedics (Ward K9E)

The ANMF conducted a meeting with members at the Royal Hobart Hospital Ward K9E on Tuesday 12 January 2021, to discuss ongoing working conditions in the unit. As a result of the issues/concerns raised, a resolution was passed to undertake a Step One Grievance. A letter has been sent by ANMF with the details to follow via email to members. The Tasmanian Health Service have been requested to respond by COB 3 February 2021.

Inpatient Oncology (Ward 9A)

The ANMF have issued written confirmation to the Tasmanian Health Service agreeing to terms for a proposed outcome to the ongoing Step 2 Grievance for Inpatient Oncology Services. This will see the addition of a sixth nurse across all outstanding afternoon shifts (Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday) on any given week. This is a significant development for the unit and the ANMF wish to thank all members involved in the Grievance for their assistance to date. The ANMF will advise members via email once the Tasmanian Health Service have responded.

Safe Staffing Organising Committee

The ANMF, in its capacity as a member of the newly convened Royal Hobart Hospital Safe Staffing Organising Committee, have written to the Tasmanian Health Service requesting current benchmarking data for a host of hospital sites. It is anticipated that this information will assist in prioritising the agenda of this working group and allow the ANMF and its members to have greater access and transparency on all staffing models across the service.

Department of Critical Care Medicine (DCCM/ICU)

On the 19 January 2021, the ANMF wrote to Tasmanian Health Service management regarding the mooted re-deployment of several experienced and highly qualified Department of Critical Care Medicine nurses on account of a valid medical exemption from participation in night shift duties. A response has been requested by COB 3 February 2021, the major outcomes of which will be relayed to members via email.

Updates correct as at 21 January 2021.
