Aged Care Updates – Statewide

Respect Wellington Views

The ANMF await a reply to our request to attend a meeting with members and management to discuss matters outstanding at Respect.

May Shaw – James Scott Wing and Aminya

Nurses and care staff are experiencing continued stress due to unsustainable workloads. The ANMF have written to the May Shaw CEO, raising concerns with high workplace stress, incidences of residents absconding, multiple staff resignations and to encourage an immediate reinstatement of nursing and carer hours.

OneCare Umina Park

ANMF officials visited Umina Park on 7 December 2020. North West Organiser, Annette Beechey met with nurses to review the Enterprise Agreement offer made by the employer, while ANMF Member Engagement Officer Yasmin McMahon met with care workers. Members report that the Foul and Nauseous Linen Allowance is not paid in a timely manner despite the appropriate paperwork being completed. This has been raised with the facility manager on behalf of ANMF members. You can read the full update sent to members online here.

Member Engagement Officer

Over the past couple of weeks, Mandy, our Southern Member Engagement Officer has attended several morning/afternoon teas and meetings with members. Sites visited include Freemasons, Corumbene, Huon Regional Care Dover, Huon Regional Care Franklin, Christian Homes Hawthorn Village, Christian Homes Snug village, UAW Lillian Martin Queen Victoria Nursing home, Southern Cross Care Rosary Gardens, Rivulet, and May Shaw Swansea. The ANMF are looking forward to catching up with members at other sites so please keep an eye out on your notice boards for dates and times of when the ANMF will be visiting your workplace.

Southern Cross Care Tasmania (SCCT)

Marys Grange

Marys Grange closed on Friday 26 February 2021. This was a difficult time for those nurses and care staff who remained on site until the last resident was transferred. We wish members all the best for their future – whether that be at another Southern Cross Care facility or elsewhere.

Sandown Apartments

The ANMF remain committed to progressing the issue of loss of care hours on behalf of members at Sandown and intend to take this matter to the independent umpire for resolution. The ANMF will conduct a meeting to discuss this in more detail in the coming weeks, meeting flyers to follow. The ANMF acknowledge that our members are currently working with inadequate care hours to complete the minimum residential care required.

Rosary Gardens

The ANMF met with members on Monday 1 March 2021 to discuss any current workplace issues. The ANMF are now preparing to send formal correspondence to Southern Cross Care (SCC) management regarding rosters, staffing clinical support and governance issues, and other matters raised by members. The ANMF will return to members once a response from management is received.

Fairway Rise

The ANMF will visit Fairway Rise in the coming weeks to follow up on previous member workplace concerns and the impact of a change of managers at the facility.

Rivulet (South Hobart)

The ANMF met with members on 1 March 2021. Members raised a number of issues including: staffing, the transfer to Southern Cross Care Tasmania (SCCT) and promises made to staff, late night security. SCCT Rivulet are pleased to notify us of the recruitment of 6 new nurses on day shift inclusive of 4 Registered Nurses and 2 Enrolled Nurses. Members look forward to actioning several of their concerns at the next staff meeting.
