Overview: COVID-19 Vaccine Rollout Update #3

Overview: COVID-19 Vaccine Rollout Update #3

The rollout of phase 1a vaccination commenced on 15 March at the North West Regional Hospital and the Launceston General Hospital. The Mersey Community Hospital will also commence their clinic this Friday 19  March, delivering the Astra Zeneca vaccine as this vaccine does not require the cold storage requirements.

This will mean a significantly increased number of members will now be able to access their 1a vaccine. However, it is noted that phase 1b will soon mean all members will be eligible for a COVID-19 vaccination.

The ANMF has been advised that those working in remote areas like King Island and Flinders Island will likely receive their vaccine through the GP, as will those who are working at district hospitals like Queenstown. Vaccination teams may also visit larger district sites to conduct vaccinations, although this has not yet been confirmed nor is there a timeframe for implementation.

It is understood that around 30% of staff working in residential aged care have been vaccinated through the Commonwealth program and that the State program will also vaccinate aged care staff at the end of their phase 1a if any staff has not yet been vaccinated.

The State vaccination booking system will soon have an added option of logging your availability via an online portal and a text message will be sent to you confirming your booking.

As previously advised, the ANMF has also secured a commitment for public sector members that attendance at the vaccination hubs should be in paid work time, however, if this attendance falls on a day off and it is agreed between you and your manager that this is the best option, then you will also be paid to attend along with reasonable travel costs.

Updates correct as at 17 March 2021.
