Southern Cross Care
On 21 April 2021, the ANMF attended a negotiation meeting along with three ANMF Workplace Representatives to discuss a union response to an offer made by Southern Cross Care (SCC). ANMF Representatives raised that the wage offer of 1.5% represents an increase of about 35 cents per hour for Extended Care Assistants (ECAs) which, added to the loss of paid meal breaks, equates to a significant financial loss to members who are already on subsistence wages. SCC will consult with the CEO prior to responding to the ANMF on 26 May 2021.

Healthscope
The ANMF has evaluated the results of the member survey regarding the Healthscope Enterprise Agreement and provided this information to the negotiators. The results were as follows:

  • 60% of members indicated that they do not accept the wage deal on offer
  • Members want backpay paid from July 2020
  • 60% of members remain uncertain that the workload consultative committee will work effectively

The ANMF is waiting for a response from the Healthscope negotiation team and remains committed to working hard to improve the workload clause and pay offer for the new Agreement for our members. Regular weekly walk-arounds are being conducted by ANMF Organisers to ward and unit tea rooms, Organisers are happy to discuss any issues or questions you have.

The ANMF explained the financial loss of paid meal breaks for carer and enrolled nurses was not acceptable to our members. The ANMF also articulated concerns around resident safety if carer and enrolled nurses left the facility during lunch break. Our ANMF Organiser, spoke to the Workplace Representative about collecting data and documenting how often breaks were interrupted to return to floor to care for residents or attend emergencies.
