Royal Hobart Hospital

Post Anaesthetics Recovery Unit (PARU)

On Friday 21 May 2021, The Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation (ANMF) (Tasmanian Branch) met with Tasmanian Health Service (THS) Management regarding the developing practice of PARU playing host to Department of Critical Care Medicine (DCCM) over-flow patients.

All member feedback was taken on notice by Management with commitments to engage in staff feedback meetings in order to flesh out the topics of concern and ANMF understand that all staff have subsequently received email correspondence from THS regarding the most pertinent items on the list.

Additional work is understood to be currently underway to develop specific escalation/de-escalation protocols regarding the identification and management of suitable DCCM patients in the PARU setting.

ANMF anticipate conducting a member meeting on the unit within the coming weeks in order to provide members the opportunity to directly raise points of ongoing concern – date/time to be confirmed via a separate flyer.
