Staff profile: Annette Beechey, ANMF North Western Organiser

Annette had a varied career prior to starting nursing as a mature aged student, travelling every day from the North West Coast to Launceston’s UTAS campus. She did her grad year at the North West Regional Hospital (NWRH) then went into the operating theatre.

In 2018 she left the Tasmanian Health Service (THS) and took on a Clinical Care Manager position in a residential aged care facility. Then in late in 2019, she became the North Western Organiser for the ANMF. She says the role allows her the opportunity to advocate for nurses and carer on a much broader scale.

“My advice to students is to ask  lots of questions and don’t be afraid to admit you don’t know something. You don’t need to have all the answers you do need to know where to find the answer.  The safest practitioners including students are the ones who don’t pretend they know something. I still say to people every day that is not my area of expertise I will consult with, or research it and get back to you,” Annette said.
