ANMF Newsflash: Southern Cross Care Tasmania Mount Esk

The Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation Tasmanian Branch (ANMF) met with Southern Cross Care Tasmania (SCCT) regarding the change to carers working the afternoon shift setting up meal trays.

SCCT provided that while this current scenario is not the optimal solution, it is an interim measure. Previously the kitchen tasks were the duties of the night shift carers. SCCT had concerns regarding the safety of this plan (as there is reduced staffing on the night duty) – leaving minimal staff to assist on the floor. As such, the change was brought about to relieve some of the workload and safety concerns on the night shift.

Management have provided that when the new kitchen is established at Mount Esk, the plan would be to cover all kitchen duties with kitchen staff. As such, the current arrangement is an interim measure that would ideally be resolved in six months when the kitchen is functional.

If you have further feedback regarding this issue, please do not hesitate to contact member support through membersupport@anmftas.org.au. Alternatively, the ANMF will next be onsite on Thursday 20 January 2022. In the instance that the facility is put into lockdown, the meeting will transpire via Zoom. Meeting flyer to follow.

Updates correct as at 13 January 2022.
