Public Sector Updates – North

Launceston General Hospital (LGH)

Operating Room Suite (ORS)

Unfortunately, the ANMF member meeting scheduled for Thursday 7 April 2022 was cancelled by the Tasmanian Health Service (THS) due to the Launceston General Hospital (LGH) being at Escalation Point 3 – this has not occurred in the past and the ANMF is investigating what has changed. Further, the LGH Safe Staffing meeting for the same day was also cancelled but without explanation. We have now received an update on the solutions agreed to coming out of the 2021 Grievance and this update was to be provided in November 2021. The ANMF is in the process of reviewing this information and will provide an email update shortly. We will also consider a survey for members to complete to provide information on current workloads as well as a workload form that can be completed on shifts of high demand. Further updates to follow.

Emergency Department (ED)

On Tuesday 5 April 2022, the ANMF met with LGH ED members to discuss progress on the solutions gained out of the 2021 Tasmanian Industrial Commission (TIC) process. Members have indicated that solutions are providing some relief however the impact of COVID-19 layoffs is challenging. The ANMF will seek to have a meeting with THS management to discuss current concerns and a plan for oversight of the solution agreed thus far. Further updates to follow.

Ward 5B

The ANMF has received contact from members concerned with the current workloads on 5B and progress for benchmarking. We are in the process of scheduling a meeting with members to discuss these concerns and seek solutions. A meeting will be scheduled shortly.

Child Health and Parenting Service (CHaPS)

The ANMF has received contact from members regarding persistent workload concerns and is in the progress of re-writing to THS management to outline the need for the Nursing Workload Tool. Further updates will follow.

Updates correct as at 13 April 2022.
