Public Sector Updates – South

Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH)

Ward 2A

The ANMF, on Monday 18 July 2022, received a response from Tasmanian Health Service (THS) management regarding identified workload, staffing, educational and workplace aggression, and violence within RHH Ward 2A (Medical Specialties). This letter will be distributed to members via a separate Newsflash for their consideration ahead of an anticipated member meeting to be arranged as soon as practicable.

Neonatal and Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (NPICU)

The ANMF, on Thursday 14 July 2022, met with THS senior management regarding ongoing work in ratifying the proposed NPICU Nurse Hours per Patient Day (NHpPD) Benchmarking with the relevant Australian Standards (the Australian College of Critical Care Nurses – ACCCN). It is anticipated that once complete, this work will result in as-yet defined increases for staffing in alignment with requirements for specialised roles such as access, equipment, research etc within the unit. Whilst initial discussions were cordial and fruitful, more work remains, and a subsequent meeting is to be arranged in the near future. The ANMF commits to advising members via a Newsflash urgently once this work has been settled to advise any outcomes.

Emergency Department (ED)

The ANMF met with local management for RHH ED on Friday 16 July 2022 to discuss several issues identified by members and local Representatives alike. The THS has pledged to advise further in writing and the ANMF anticipates progressing these matters to higher forums if appropriate for formal consideration.

Updates correct as at 21 July 2022.
